Food production in forests
Have you ever wondered where that piece of pineapple that you are eating or that tomato in your sandwich come from? Pineapple and tomato among many other fruits and vegetables were first discovered in forests. Of course, nowadays you don't have to visit a forest to obtain a tomato or pineapple. That is because of food production from forests. Over the years, it has been discovered how to grow these foods; suitable climates, how much water they require, ect. We can now replicate these environments and grow these foods in these replicated environments. However, most of the time, the replicated environments are in forests themselves. This is because forests, especially rainforests and temperate forests have very fertile soils. So, often the trees and shrubs are cleared from forests, in order to make room for agricultural land.
